A vast expanse of colorful, striped tulip fields stretches towards the distant Cascades Mountains as seen from Mount Vernon, Washington, with dramatic clouds allowing beams of sunlight to break through early in the morning yesterday.
This farm is part of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, the second largest in the entire USA, about one and a half hour north of Seattle. Peak bloom is from mid-April to the end of April with many beautiful varieties.

Vibrant tulip field stretches across the landscape in Mount Vernon, Washington, a.k.a. The charming Northwest Railway Museum (NRM) built in 1890 is nestled under the blooming branches of a cherry blossom tree, with soft pink flowers contrasting against the rustic, vintage architecture in Snoqualmie, Washington.
It is the oldest continuously operating train station in the state of Washington and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
Today tourists can take the train from the Depot to the top of Snoqualmie Falls, then to North Bend and back. A new period-appropriate (and very ornate) cedar shingle roof was completed in 2024.
